Specializing in high-end estate/tag sales and clean-outs, The Clearing House Xchange co-owned by Victoria Collett and her partner, James “Nick” Nicolino, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Originally begun in Southampton in 2004, they expanded to Greenport in 2008, where they currently have a 7,000 sq. ft. renovated warehouse housing their consignment store at 414 First Street. Serving the Hamptons, the North Fork, and all of Eastern Long Island, they are the most complete resale operation on Long Island.
Working hand-in-hand with the local real estate industry, they offer a “White Glove Service” ideally suited for sellers and buyers, taking place between the signing of the contract to just before the closing date. Their knowledgeable and professional staff will handle every aspect of disbursing the beautiful home furnishings the sellers are not taking with them. This includes having an estate/tag sale, where their professionals come into the home and tag the items. Wearing red aprons, they will escort customers throughout the house, showing them the wonderful goods for sale, or as Nick calls it “A treasure hunt with a tour guide!” Customers generally “clear out” about 80-90% of the house in one day, hence the name “Clearing House.” Not stopping there, the company will do a complete broom-clean of the home, preparing it for the buyers to move in.
Also provided are trucking, moving, and delivery services helping to transport all of the merchandise sold in a smooth and seamless process, as well as dealing with the remaining unsold goods. Anything that did not sell at the estate sale will then be redistributed either to their consignment store in Greenport or donated to the many East End charities they work with such as The Retreat domestic violence shelter, CAST of Greenport, Habitat for Humanity, ARF, East End Hospice, and many more.
The consignment showroom has thousands of items at any given time and is a true “treasure trove” for those searching for that one particular piece for their home. Many of their clients are new buyers of homes, dealers from antique stores, decorators, and designers. They have also begun the fun event of “A Walk Around Auction,” where they sell special collectibles out of their warehouse. As Victoria exclaims, “There is something for everyone.”
What’s unique about this business, is that it is 100% green! Everything is reused, recycled, or redistributed back into the community. What one person discards, someone else prizes, and it will find its way to that right person either in the estate sale, at the consignment store, purchased by the new buyer of the house, or by donation. A gorgeous antique, a fine artwork, unique lamp, or other unusual object will make its way to someone who will truly enjoy and appreciate it. Nothing is wasted.
The Clearing House Xchange is a highly coordinated and professional business with most turnarounds taking around 30 days. An all-in-one service designed to move the seller’s items out just as the buyer prepares to move in, it is a perfect fit for the real estate industry.
