The North Fork celebrates pretty much everything. Strawberries, pumpkins, harvest, shellfish, culture, and the list goes on. Of the calendar holidays, Independence Day is particularly special as we are afforded the opportunity to watch fireworks shows over the water from beaches and boats. This month we can celebrate with another new popup, also featuring something sparkling, and the expansion of a truly local real estate firm making its way to join the other businesses of Greenport. Now in the thick of summer, there is no shortage of new and fun things to do on the North Fork.
Croteaux Popup
Croteaux Vineyards on South Harbor Road in Southold is known for its exclusive selection of rosé wines. They offer a variety of bright, crisp, and dry rosés made in small batches reminiscent of southern France. Though their tasting room is currently closed, fans of all things pink can purchase wines made from their estate grown merlot, cabernet franc, and sauvignon blanc online. But tasting is part of the North Fork wine experience, and the vineyard has found a temporary home every Monday at Little Creek Oyster Farm and Market in Greenport. Sip rosé by the glass and bottle and take home favorites to enjoy later. Try the popular Merlot 181 with notes of white peach, lemon, and salt air finish with crisp minerality or the Chloe Sauvignon Blanc sparkling with its effervescent fruit flavors of pear and fresh herbs. It’s a pretty great way to start the week if you ask us.
Town & Country Opens in Greenport
The largest independently owned and operated real estate firm on the East End is set to expand even further with their 9th and newest office opening at 120 Front Street in Greenport. Town & Country Real Estate, opened in 2005 and led by Judi Desiderio with managing partners Nancy McGann and Janet Hummel, had always aimed to open an outpost in one of the North Fork’s most popular villages. Desiderio says the North Fork real estate market is different than its Hamptons counterpart, with a vibe, clientele, and heartbeat all its own. Town & Country says Greenport is an ideal location for an office because of the increased foot traffic, not to mention its notable water views with the new office being just across the street from Mitchell Park. The firm looks forward to expanding their footprint and hiring more agents to accommodate their expansion. When you’re in the market to buy or sell, pop into this new office to learn what makes Town & Country agents a top choice on the North Fork.
Celebrating Independence Day
This is the July 4th issue after all… celebrate Independence Day on the North Fork with fun events for the whole family. The first thing that comes to mind is fireworks, of course. Since the holiday falls on a Wednesday, events are taking place the week before and after Fourth of July. Port of Egypt Marine is hosting two raft-ups for fireworks extravaganzas; Orient Harbor on June 30 and Crescent Beach, Shelter Island on July 7. Peconic Cruise Line will also be joining, inviting those without boats or too many guests to board with them. Of course, you can always watch the show from the beach. Riverhead’s popular Alive on 25 block party featuring bands, food vendors, and other attractions may merge with the annual fireworks show, depending on the weather, falling on Thursday, July 5. With each of the North Fork towns typically scheduling events on different days, there will be no shortage of sparklers in the area this holiday.
