A Desk of One’s Own

“The pandemic changed people’s working habits profoundly. At this stage, even though many of our clients are back to their offices, the time that people WFH is much longer than before,” says Alex Xie of Stelle, Lomont, Rouhani Architects.

“Working space at home is more demanding; not necessarily a home office, but a multi-function room with desk surface, Peloton bike, and murphy bed that can support more at-home activity can also be ideal for WFH. And enclosed spaces enable people to have virtual meetings without disturbing others sharing the living space.”

A desk is the starting point. “We like desks that are modest and can blend in with the existing design easily. But that also depends on the clients’ needs; for instance, a more practical desk is preferred if the client has more than one monitor in the office,” says Xie.
