It is hard to believe another summer season has come to an end on the North Fork. With fall comes more ways to celebrate the East End, including the much-anticipated Maritime Festival in the Village of Greenport, now in its 30th year. Newer to the lineup of annual fall events is the North Fork TV Festival, which continues to grow, evolve, and adds a new cultural level to what the area is able to offer year-round. The North Fork real estate market holds opportunities for new businesses, while an exciting pop-up focused on selfcare offers something a little different for Southold. Here is a glimpse into what’s happening on the North Fork…
Historic Commercial Property Hits the Market
An 1800s historic building that served as the retail space for Phoebe and Belle’s furniture, home décor, gifts, pantry, and garden items has hit the market. Completely renovated and restored with original details intact, the well maintained, turnkey commercial property features a first-floor retail space with seven rooms, one-and-a-half bathrooms, and full kitchen. On the unfinished second floor there is plenty of space for storage, as well as a fully renovated two-bedroom apartment with a deck. The 3,702-square-foot retail and residential building sits on a large lot with ample parking. 55 Skunk Lane in Cutchogue is listed by Douglas Elliman’s Maria Caporto and Thomas Uhlinger for $999,999.
East End Seaport Museum Welcomes New Executive Director
With a mission of celebrating and conserving the maritime heritage of the East End of Long Island, the East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation in Greenport honors the local marine history through artifacts and exhibits, an aquarium, education efforts, and events, including the annual Maritime Festival. The organization recently welcomed a new executive director to take the helm. Barbara Poliwoda brings more than 20 years of experience in fundraising and development, having been the regional director for the American Heart Association. Now, the Southold resident is applying her skills on the North Fork to help drive the museum and foundation forward.
Fourth Annual North Fork TV Festival
A two-day celebration of the future of independent scripted television, the North Fork TV Festival is returning for its fourth year on Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5. The historic Greenport Theatre will become an entertainment hotspot with a curated selection of pilot screenings, panels, and celebrations honoring industry leaders. Kicking off the festivities, the opening night party will be held at Claudio’s with fresh, local seafood complemented by Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. beer, and wine from Castello di Borghese Vineyard and Winery. This year, actors Kelsey Grammer and Constance Wu will be honored at the festival amid the five independent pilot screenings and panels scheduled for the event. Rounding out the festival, the closing night party is taking place at Green Hill Kitchen with small bites and a performance by The Simple Radicals. Get tickets at www.northfork.tv.
RICA Pop-up in Southold
Bath and body product lovers will find a little slice of apothecary heaven at RICA’s Southold Bath House Pop-up open now through the end of the year. The shop is inspired by a history of southern family beauty recipes dating back to owner Dr. Kristina Ivy’s great, great grandmother, fondly known as “Big Mama,” who used fresh farmland ingredients to make healthy and effective beauty products. These natural products are made-to-order daily in Brooklyn with organic and local ingredients, many grown and sourced from the North Fork. Bar soaps, body polish, salts, candles, oils, face cleansers and serums, and more are handcrafted and USA-made. Lifestyle items like linens, throws, and charcoal dental products are also available. It’s worth a visit to freshen up your vanity.
