TOMATO SEASON
For farm produce-loving locals and visitors alike, tomato season is one of the most exciting of all on the North Fork. Firm skin, fresh and sweet inside, heirloom and cherry varieties are your best farm stand find starting now. Whether you pick them up at local farms like Sang Lee, Sep’s, Wickham’s, KK’s the Farm, or many others, and at weekend markets like those in Greenport and other East End locations, tomatoes are ripe for the pickin’.
You can find farm fresh tomatoes on local menus, too. Enjoy with mozzarella or burrata, on burgers and sandwiches, and of course, in salads. Tomatoes have even become the basis for celebration. This weekend Harbes Family Farm will host their annual Tomato Festival on Saturday and Sunday as part of their 30th anniversary season. There will be a tomato-eating contest, games, and more.
