Broker Showcase: Tom Uhlinger

As one of the more seasoned real estate agents on the North Fork, what is it that sets you apart from the others?

I bring to my client extensive knowledge acquired as a lifelong resident and business person on the North Fork, and my reputation as a fair and honest Broker. Additionally Douglas Elliman has provided me tremendous resources ranging from our excellent online presence to marketing materials that are superior to the competitors. Having a successful sale for a buyer or seller often means working with other brokers. I have earned the respect of my fellow Realtors by being fair-minded and making sure that we always put the needs of our clients above all else.

The North Fork is a unique market, would you agree and why?

Most definitely, we are a secondary home driven market and those buyers have not been daunted in pursuing a vacation home. We appeal to a quiet, laid back successful clientele.

How would you describe your selling style?

I am a non-pressure kind of guy. I prepare well-ahead for showings and find that the homes I show fit my customer’s needs. I provide the buyer with the tools they need to make a decision in the form of local knowledge, mortgage resources and the mechanics of the purchase.

What is a typical day like in real estate for you?

I’m an early riser, answering texts and e-mails before 6:00am, in the office by 8:00 am communicating with prospects till noon. Then it’s setting up advertising and doing research for appointments, frequently answering questions from colleagues in the office.

Can you tell us about some of your more notable sales?

Just this past year I was successful in both listing and selling the Matt-AMar Marina in Mattituck which was priced at $6.5 million. Last year I was involved for the third time with the listing and sale of an Estate on Paradise Point in Southold that closed for over $3.3 million, I had sold it originally in early 2000, then had relisted it and was successful in it being sold again in 2008, each time it sold for over $3 million.

What is the most personally satisfying part of your work?

Meeting new people, continually learning new aspects of our real estate market and just how crucial the industry is to the economy of our country. I also enjoy doing mentoring with new agents and seeing them succeed.

What do you like to do on the North Fork…after selling real estate of course?

Spending quality time with our 2 grandsons who we are blessed to have living near us. I also enjoy a round of golf at our local par three and taking a drive in my 1965 Shelby Cobra Roadster replica.
