It has been a long time coming, but spring will officially arrive this Wednesday! We’ve already experienced warmer temperatures and are looking forward to more greenery and flowers blooming. Now is the time of year when we begin to spend more time outdoors in our gardens, go for longer walks on the beach, hike local trails, and other outdoor activities. Kick things off this week with North Fork events designed to get you outside.
On Wednesday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m., go for a walk under the Full Worm Moon at Downs Farm Preserve in Cutchogue with Group for the East End. The Group will also lead an early spring walk through the woods along the same trails on Sunday, March 24 at 10 a.m. to explore the still-dormant forest ecosystem. The Long Island Pine Barrens Society is leading a hike through the Cranberry Bog Preserve in Riverhead on Sunday, March 24 at noon. If you really love nature, attend a Nature Talk at Moustache Brewing Co. in Riverhead for a talk with Fish Guy Photos’ Chris Paparo and Christopher Gobler of the Stony Brook School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences on “Stepping back from the abyss: Restoring Long Island’s Bays” at 7 p.m.
