Ladies Take The Helm

We’re all eager to get on the water in one way or another as the days grow longer. Women that are interested in taking the helm can learn the ropes at Port of Egypt’s Women Making Waves boating basics workshop this spring. Participants will learn about nautical terms, safety at sea, radio use, basic navigation, how to secure a boat to a slip, and an introduction to docking with a practice session. These workshops are designed to give women the confidence to be the captain of their own ship all season long.

Port of Egypt in Southold is a family owned and operated marina since 1946, and is the world’s oldest Grady-White dealer. The marina was founded by brothers William Sr., Herb and Herman Lieblein, who opened a fishing station on Southold Bay. Today, the company endeavors to get as many people on the water to enjoy all the North Fork has to offer. They offer workshops and events throughout the year, as well as amenities like barbecue grills, pool, cabana, and restaurants to enjoy while the boat is docked.
