ART IN THE PARK

Alive on 25 continues in Riverhead this Thursday, August 1 with more family fun at the summer block party that unites community and visitors alike. Live bands will play at various restaurants and breweries while street vendors serve up food and fun for the whole family. From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., visitors can stroll Grangabel Park for the special art installation, Reflextions. The light show features sculptures crafted by local artisans for an outdoor display with reflective elements made from recycled materials. Sculptures are up all day, but come alive at night!

“Alive on 25 has become a true celebration of summer; captivating Riverhead’s downtown with culture, entertainment, and smiles all around,” shares Riverhead Business Improvement District executive director Kristy Verity. “This year we’ve expanded to the riverfront, pairing with Grangebel’s Art in the Park installation to kick off their ‘Riverhead Rocks’ glowing art and sculpture walk.

“Everyone is invited to be a part of the park project, with the hope of growing Grangebel into an enjoyable public art space blooming with community pride. Locals have decorated rocks (and still can!) with neon paint, filling a cage sculpture that spells RIVERHEAD and glows by blacklights at night. Visitors will discover pieces made from recycled materials, metal sculptures glowing by fire, interactive exhibits for children (and the kids at heart!) as they walk along the river while local musicians play on stage. It’s really a site that has to be seen – Instagram worthy, for sure!”
