Inspirational Artist’s Retreat

The classic barn symbolizes the North Fork of Long Island known for its rural countryside, bountiful vineyards, and potato-farming heritage. Today, many traditional barns have been reinvented into modern day living spaces. The Wildbank/McGuire-Wien residence in South Jamesport exemplifi es that phenomenon.

In 2007, Bridgehampton architect David Harvey converted a 100-year old potato barn together with owner/builder Bob Kessler into a contemporary residence. In consultation with green designer Maggie Wood of Golden Earthworm Organic Farm and Port Jefferson interior designer Eva Glaser, the Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home with Japanese Garden aesthetics echoed the vision of the new owners Charles Wildbank and Mary McGuire-Wien, who helped complete it. Located on half an acre in South Jamesport, this contemporary home refl ects the natural and conscious living styles of both Charles Bourke Wildbank, a renowned photorealist painter, whose works represent a wide range of themes including fl orals, still lifes, portraits, and seascapes and his wife, Mary McGuire-Wien, whose writings and yoga workshops have been an inspiration to many. Together, through their mutual love of nature, healthy living, and the environment, they have made their Yoga/Art retreat into a blissful paradise, with every detail carefully thought out in their quest to live peacefully with nature.

With the bay to the south, the sound to the north, and the ocean to the east, the spectacular reflective light on the East End provides the ideal setting for Wildbank’s masterpieces.

The proximity to farm fresh organic produce and fresh dairy products is ideal for Mary’s yoga cleansing practice. For an artist and a yogini this Zen-like artist’s retreat is designed with the utmost care for lighting, simplicity, and nature.
